AccessPlus goes to the Festival
Most likely you’ve heard of the Woodford Folk Festival (www.woodfordfolkfestival.com) and its sibling festival The Dreaming (www.thedreamingfestival.com), or may have even been one of the 100,000 visitors who attend these colourful festivals annually.
Globally renowned for these vibrant multicultural events, the Queensland Folk Federation (QFF) came to AccessPlus with a need to provide its staff with reliable and secure Internet access, as well as an Intranet to enable the various departments to ‘talk’ with each other regarding sales, ticketing and other resources.
If you have visited one of the festivals you will be familiar with the 11970km2 setting, the surrounding bushy terrain and the occasionally oppressively hot, windy or rainy weather. This terrain and weather proved too much for the initial wireless solution, which has been supplanted with a solution using existing phone lines with Wireless Access Points and/or Ethernet switches connected to devices at each endpoint, creating a single Ethernet network.
Plans for the future include creating a new mini data-room in the middle of the Festival area which would enable high-speed access to servers required for both sales and multimedia services, as well as providing Internet services for festival-goers.
